Can we change the world through street art?

"Be positive in life and do things with love"

DAST, a Colombian street artist talked with Wings to the World about his art, his sources of inspiration, the difficulties he has faced and have taught him something significant and how he’s contributing and would like to contribute to social change through his art.
We hope you find his story inspiring!

Wings to the World: Hi DAST, we are so proud and happy to have you at Wings to the World! Tell us, what does the statement “Creating from the heart tells you”? How is it related to your life?

DAST - Creating from the heart means that if you work and create with love, your art work will show it, and people who see your work will feel it and of course you will get your reward from it.

Wings to the World: What are your main interests?

DAST: Everything related to Art and Design.

Wings to the World: What’s your main source of inspiration?

DAST: You can find inspiration anywhere, it’s only a matter of how you see things, but for me, my main source of inspiration is the city’s architecture and the landscape.

Wings to the World: Tasks you’re good at?

DAST: Drawing and painting.

Wings to the World: Tasks you prefer not to do?

DAST: All the burocracy papers after you end a job with a company.

A real good job is when you work with real love and it gives you personal satisfaction and you get paid for it.

Wings to the World: Things you love to do without anyone telling you to do them?

DAST: Creating an image, drawing and painting on my computer.

Wings to the World: What have been the main difficulties you have found in your professional and / or personal life?

DAST: Learn to be patient, because sometimes some things take more time than you expected.

Wings to the World: How have those difficulties contributed to your personal development?

DAST: Those difficulties taught me to be more focused, and to not waste my energy in unnecessary ways.

Wings to the World: What would your dream job be?

DAST: I would say a real good job is when you work with real love and it gives you personal satisfaction and you get paid for it... get paid for painting like I do right now 🙂

Wings to the World: Do you think you’re leading others through your lifestyle?

DAST: Hope so.

Any form of art can be a channel to focus the energy of young people. It can also help you get rid of thoughts from your head.

Wings to the World: How long have you being a street artist?

DAST: Around 12 years.

Wings to the World: Why did you decide to be a street artist?

DAST: Since I was a kid I liked to draw, and when I stared at graffiti in the street I was very attracted to it, so I decided to try it myself!

Wings to the World: Can we change the world through street art?

DAST: Yes! Any form of art can be a channel to focus the energy of young people. It can also help you get rid of thoughts from your head and just let you enjoy or contemplate a piece of art.

Art can also be anyone’s voice, especially street art because the street belongs to everyone.

Wings to the World: Is there any person (famous or not) you consider to be a good example to follow?

DAST: There are a lot of people!  Like good friends of mine such as Gris One or Ceroker.

Wings to the World: What have you found interesting, amusing and shareable from being a street artist and riding your bike?

DAST: I would say thanks to street art I have been able to be in a lot of places that I couldn’t have been in any other way, here in Bogotá, in Colombia and outside Colombia. I have also met a lot of new and cool people from a lot of different places.

…and biking! The sensation of being free and going anywhere you want.

Wings to the World: How do you think your life style is contributing to the world?

DAST: Maybe by trying to promote a different kind of lifestyle that society tries to impose you.

Wings to the World: How do you think your art is contributing to the world?

DAST: I would say I try to share something new to the people who see my work, I try to be a window to their imagination through my work.

Art can also be anyone’s voice, especially street art because the street belongs to everyone.

Wings to the World: If you were famous, what do you think people will know you about?

DAST: I think would be my work. I’ll say that’s the most important part.

Wings to the World: What legacy do you think your life is leaving in the world?

DAST: Be positive in life and do things with love.

Wings to the World: What advice would you give people who are reflecting and want to change something about their life style but haven’t found how?

DAST: Don’t stop, and consider even the smallest idea, and always try to think outside the box.

Thank you!
